Uzbekistan Refunds Over 19 Billion UZS in VAT to Low-Income Families in 2025 Q1

In a significant financial move, Uzbekistan refunded more than 19 billion UZS in value-added tax (VAT) to low-income families during the first quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to provide much-needed support to vulnerable households.

According to the State Tax Committee, since May 1, 2023, individuals registered in the Unified Social Protection Register have qualified for a 12% VAT refund—referred to as social cashback—on eligible purchases at retail outlets. This program represents an increase from the previous standard of 1% cashback, significantly enhancing financial assistance for low-income families.

During the first quarter of 2025, the total social cashback payouts amounted to 19.7 billion UZS, benefiting 168,146 consumers across the country. Notably, the highest refund amounts were recorded in major regions, with Tashkent city leading at 5.4 billion UZS, followed by Samarkand region with 2.2 billion UZS and Tashkent region with 1.8 billion UZS.

The VAT refunds are applicable for a variety of essential products and services, including:
