The First Vessel’s Keel Laid at Balkan Factory in January

A milestone event took place on January 6th at the OJSC Shipbuilding and Shipyard “Balkan” as the keel of the first dry cargo ship was laid in a solemn ceremony. Representatives from the company of the Republic of Korea “Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd.” including President Choi Yong Ukom were present at the event alongside specialists from the plant.

The keel laying ceremony signifies an important stage in the development of both the plant and the entire shipbuilding industry in the country. It symbolizes strength, reliability, and durability for the future structure of the ship. The new dry cargo vessel will meet modern standards, ensuring efficient use of resources.

This project to construct dry cargo vessels for the “Türkmendeňizderýaýollary” agency is part of a decree issued by the President of Turkmenistan on August 31, 2023, aimed at enhancing the material and technical base of the transport industry.

Initiated based on a contract signed in September 2023 between Turkmenistan and the South Korean company, the project involves the construction of two vessels with a carrying capacity of 6100 tons. The first blocks of the vessels were transported to the construction site on November 11, 2024.

This event marks a significant step forward in the shipbuilding industry in Turkmenistan and sets the stage for further advancements in the field.
