The Mejlis Delegation in Tashkent for the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly
The Turkmen delegation, led by Chairperson of the Mejlis, recently visited Tashkent to take part in the 150th-anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The event, which began on April 5th in the capital of Uzbekistan, saw Chairperson Dunyagozel Gulmanova meeting with Tulia Ackson, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
During the visit, Speaker Gulmanova discussed Turkmenistan’s peaceful and humanitarian domestic and foreign policies with the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s leadership. She also extended an invitation for the Union to participate in international events commemorating the country’s 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust. The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union commended Turkmenistan’s active engagement in international cooperation and expressed a strong interest in furthering dialogue and organizing joint events.
The Turkmen delegation also engaged in discussions with the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong. They emphasized the significance of United Nations General Assembly Resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan, focusing on peace and trust, as well as the country’s efforts to enhance global peace and security.
Additionally, Bayramgozel Myradova, Chairperson of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Policy, participated in the Women Parliamentarians Forum organized within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s 150th-anniversary session. During the forum, Turkmenistan highlighted its dedication to protecting human rights, ensuring gender equality, and empowering youth. The country’s achievements in implementing the National Action Plan for 2021-2025 on gender equality, in collaboration with the UN and other international bodies, were also underscored.
Overall, the Turkmen delegation’s visit to Tashkent was marked by fruitful discussions, highlighting the country’s commitment to international cooperation and peace-building efforts.
