Turkmenistan Sees Growth in Textile Industry and Trade Turnover

During a recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Turkmenistan led by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Vice-Premier Nokerguly Atagulyyev presented a report on the progress made by supervised ministries, sectoral departments, and the business sector in the first quarter of 2025.

The report highlighted a 13% increase in trade turnover in comparison to the same period last year, with a 1.2% growth in production output in the trade and foreign economic relations sphere.

Notably, the Ministry of Textile Industry saw a significant surge in production volume, with a 14.2% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024. Production of cotton yarn rose by 42.9%, fabrics by 50.9%, garments and knitwear by 4.3%, and leather goods by 40.4%.

The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs also reported positive trends, with a 7.1% growth in agricultural and food production and a 4.3% increase in industrial production.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov underlined the importance of advancing the digital economy and e-commerce to address the complex’s challenges successfully. He emphasized the need to focus on providing the domestic market with essential goods and expanding the textile industry’s assortment and production volumes.

Furthermore, the President instructed the exploration of international practices to enhance the operations of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Specific directions were given to the Vice-Premier in this regard.

The report indicates promising developments in Turkmenistan’s textile industry and trade sector, reflecting the country’s commitment to economic growth and innovation.
