The White House Rejects Netanyahu’s Request: We Do Not Want It

White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, recently gave interviews to both NBC and CNN regarding the ongoing situation in Rafah. Sullivan expressed concern over the lack of a plan to protect civilians in the area, where approximately 1 million people are living in cramped conditions due to the operations in Gaza. He emphasized the importance of providing security, food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.
During discussions with Israeli officials, Sullivan made it clear that the United States is opposed to any further military operations in Rafah without a comprehensive plan for civilian protection. When asked about the possibility of suspending arms sales to Israel until a plan is presented, Sullivan chose not to make any assumptions, but reiterated the importance of Israel returning within the agreed framework.
While Sullivan did not provide specific details about the recent talks in Paris involving the USA, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar, he did mention that there was a general understanding on how a potential prisoner exchange and cessation of hostilities could be achieved. Additional meetings between Egyptian and Hamas officials are set to take place in Qatar as efforts continue to reach a final agreement on the matter.
In conclusion, Sullivan stated that the US will continue to monitor the situation closely and urged all parties involved to uphold their commitments towards achieving peace and stability in the region.
