Tokayev and European Council President Discuss Strengthening Strategic Cooperation
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the European Council António Costa met on the sidelines of the Central Asia – EU summit in Samarkand to discuss ways to enhance strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union. The leaders emphasized the importance of building on mutual trust and strategic interests to further develop their partnership across various economic sectors.
Kazakhstan holds a significant position as the EU’s largest trade and investment partner in Central Asia, with the country accounting for 80% of EU trade with the region and over 40% of total European Foreign Direct Investment. In 2024, trade between Kazakhstan and the EU reached nearly $50 billion, highlighting the crucial role that Kazakhstan plays in Europe’s economic engagement with Central Asia.
The discussions between President Tokayev and President Costa aim to strengthen the multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union, paving the way for increased collaboration and mutual benefits in the future. The meeting underscores the commitment of both countries to deepening their strategic partnership and fostering long-term growth and prosperity.
