Tokayev Unveils Bold Infrastructure and Innovation Plans at National Kurultai
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently announced a series of ambitious projects at the National Kurultai in Burabai, Kazakhstan. These projects are aimed at strengthening the country’s infrastructure, regional development, and digital transformation in order to maintain competitiveness on the global stage.
One of the key infrastructure projects unveiled by President Tokayev is the construction of a highway from Astana through Arkalyk, Turgai, and Irgiz, connecting to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. This initiative will significantly reduce the distance between central and western Kazakhstan, leading to the development of the Turgai region. Additionally, plans include the repair of the Arkalyk airport and the construction of a new terminal complex to improve transport connectivity and support agricultural and livestock farming in Central Kazakhstan.
President Tokayev emphasized the importance of economic innovation and announced the launch of nearly 200 investment projects annually over the next four years. These projects will cover various sectors such as engineering, metallurgy, petrochemicals, agro-industry, and transport logistics, creating new job opportunities and contributing to regional development.
In terms of digitalization, President Tokayev highlighted the benefits it brings in optimizing tax and customs administration, enhancing public procurement, and simplifying interactions between citizens and the state. He stressed the need for digital transformation to drive competitiveness, particularly in digital assets and blockchain technology, and directed agencies to collaborate with experts and IT specialists to develop innovative solutions.
Furthermore, President Tokayev underscored the importance of digital transformation and the adoption of AI in shaping the innovation economy. He emphasized the growing role of scientific research and proposed the establishment of a science city near Almaty within the Alatau Innovative Technology Park, as well as the potential development of Kurchatov as another scientific hub.
To bridge economic disparities in regional development, President Tokayev highlighted the positive impact of creating three new regions in 2022 on boosting development indicators and attracting investments. He emphasized the need to address disparities in environmental standards, infrastructure, and social services through the Regional Development Concept, a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing regional gaps and improving inter-agency coordination.
Overall, President Tokayev’s vision for Kazakhstan’s future focuses on building a strong infrastructure, embracing digital innovation, and reducing regional disparities to enhance the country’s competitiveness and ensure sustainable growth.
