Trial of DHKP-C Members Begins in Germany
The trial of three individuals accused of being members of the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) has commenced in Germany, according to reports in the German press. However, the trial started late due to necessary security measures.
During the initial hearing, the Federal Prosecutor General’s Office read out the indictment prepared for the defendants. The indictment revealed that the 58-year-old defendant held the position of “South Germany Region Officer” within the organization. This individual reportedly provided financial resources to the DHKP-C, facilitated the distribution of fake identification documents to its members, and secured safe houses for their covert activities.
The indictment also stated that the 42-year-old defendant had occupied significant roles within the organization, first in Amsterdam and later in Istanbul. Subsequently, this individual assumed the position of “Germany responsible” within the DHKP-C.
Furthermore, the indictment highlighted that the 36-year-old defendant faced charges as the so-called “North Germany Region Officer” of the organization.
All three defendants were arrested in May 2022, leading to the subsequent trial. The security measures surrounding the case have resulted in the trial commencing later than anticipated.
The DHKP-C is a left-wing extremist organization that has been active for decades, primarily targeting Turkey. Its involvement in various criminal activities, including acts of terrorism, has led to its banning and designation as a terrorist organization by numerous countries.
The trial will continue as the defendants face charges related to their alleged membership in the DHKP-C, highlighting the importance of combating extremist ideologies and activities for the sake of public safety and security.
