TRNC Citizens Can Access Consular Services Worldwide through Our Representative Offices – BRTK

Turkey to Provide Consular Services to TRNC Citizens in Countries Without Representation

In a recent development, countries where the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) does not have a representative office will now have access to consular services through the diplomatic or consular representations of the Republic of Turkey. This decision comes after the Bill on the Approval of the Agreement on Providing Consular Assistance to TRNC Citizens was accepted by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayşe Berris Ekinci emphasized the importance of the agreement signed on July 20, 2023, in further strengthening bilateral relations. She stated that providing consular services to TRNC citizens in countries without TRNC representation will help prevent grievances faced by citizens.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, highlighted Turkey’s extensive diplomatic representation network, ranking as the third largest in the world. He noted that the agreement will allow TRNC citizens to receive consular services and assistance in case of detention, arrest, or imprisonment in countries without TRNC representation.

Serim reassured that Turkish Cypriots will not be left alone anywhere in the world, emphasizing Turkey’s unwavering support for its citizens. He stated, “We will always stand by them and ensure they receive the necessary assistance and support when needed.”

This agreement underscores the strong ties between Turkey and the TRNC, showcasing a commitment to protecting the rights and interests of TRNC citizens globally.
