Tsinghua University and Global Times Online Release Report on China’s Green and Low-Carbon Development
In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua ICCSD) and Global Times Online (Huanqiu.com) jointly released a research report titled “China’s Green and Low-Carbon Development: Vision and Action” on March 26, 2025. This bilingual report is the first of its kind, bringing together insights from academia and industry on China’s efforts towards green and low-carbon development.
The report was officially unveiled at the Seminar on China’s Green and Low-Carbon Development: Vision and Action, co-hosted by Tsinghua ICCSD and Global Times Online. The event saw participation from over 30 representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Harvard University, who engaged in discussions on China’s sustainable practices, opportunities for global cooperation, and climate governance.
The report comprehensively outlines China’s green transition achievements, policy framework, domestic actions, and international collaborations towards dual carbon goals. It also features exemplary case studies highlighting initiatives like China-Africa agricultural cooperation, power sector transformation, green finance innovation, ecological governance, and state-owned enterprise transformation.
Key conclusions drawn in the report underscore the openness of China’s green transition experience to the world, the shared prosperity goals of the green Belt and Road initiative, the role of new energy capacity in addressing global supply shortages, and the global benefits of Chinese innovations in reducing low-carbon transition costs.
Experts at the seminar discussed global climate governance progress and China’s pivotal role in driving green transitions. They highlighted China’s contributions to building a fair global climate governance framework through cooperation models like North-South and South-South. Industry representatives shared practical experiences from various regions, showcasing successful initiatives in ecological restoration and economic development.
The seminar and report release are seen as significant contributions to the international dialogue on green and low-carbon development. They provide a valuable platform for experts and scholars to exchange ideas and solutions, driving forward sustainable practices and global climate governance.
