Turkey Urges Russia to Send Grain to Countries in Need

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has addressed several key issues during the Russian-ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. One of the topics discussed was the Black Sea Grain Agreement, which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan mentioned in relation to proposals from Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Lavrov stated that he is unaware of any new proposals regarding this agreement.
Lavrov emphasized that these discussions between Putin and Erdoğan have been ongoing for some time. The focus of the negotiations revolves around the concessionary supply of grain, particularly wheat, to countries in need. Lavrov highlighted Turkey’s interest in participating in a plan that would allow for the processing of Russian grain and independent assistance to impoverished nations.
Another issue that Lavrov touched upon was the recent statement made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Stoltenberg expressed a desire to work more closely with partners from Asia and the European Union against Russia and China. Lavrov dismissed this policy as futile, stating that it confirms Russia’s commitment, along with many of its partners, to counter modern forms of colonialism and attempts at global hegemony.
Lavrov also commented on the expectation of a new agreement regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program. He deemed it unrealistic at this time, expressing concerns that the new US administration may repeat the previous withdrawal from the agreement after the upcoming elections.
Furthermore, Lavrov expressed optimism about further cooperation with various organizations such as the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Southeast Asian Nations Association (ASEAN). He emphasized that Russia and these organizations share common interests and aim to strategically contribute to the formation of the Greater Eurasian Partnership.
Lavrov concluded by stating that this vision of the partnership extends beyond separate structures, and invites all organizations and countries in the Eurasian continent to cooperate.
Overall, Lavrov’s statements provide insight into Russia’s perspective on various regional and global issues, emphasizing its commitment to cooperation and countering perceived threats.
