**”A DAY IN THE LIFE: 12-15 MISSIONS PERFORMED”**
“I prepare for the meeting by having breakfast and before the daily planning meeting begins, by reviewing the briefing contents and daily task files for all the activities I will do that day. Immediately after the meeting, we start carrying out our planned tasks, each with different lengths and contents. We perform 12 to 15 different tasks a day,” said Gezeravcı.
Gezeravcı explained that the duties include following observation points around the world, conducting experiments brought from Turkey, and fulfilling the responsibilities defined within the station. He noted that there are also tiring tasks that require extreme attention and energy, such as carrying out health tests and taking medical samples, which he enjoys immensely.
Furthermore, Gezeravcı provided information about scientific experiments conducted at the International Space Station. One research focuses on how the microgravity environment affects the growth, form, and genetics of plants. They are also investigating the use of algae in natural life support systems, aiming to live self-sufficiently without constant access to Earth’s resources, especially during long-term human space missions.
Gezeravcı also discussed the importance of recycling systems for air and water, as well as the potential use of algae to produce breathable air. The data collected from these experiments will guide future studies for natural environmental control systems that can be used in space.
Additionally, Gezeravcı shared his hope that the studies at the International Space Station will inspire children and young people for future space missions. He spoke about his gratitude for the opportunities provided by the state that led him to become a jet pilot and now serve at the pinnacle of humanity’s dreams at the International Space Station.
