Turkish Doctors Perform 4 Operations from 2 Centimeters: A World First
Revolutionary Heart Surgery Performed in Turkey Allows Patient to Return to Normal Life in Just 1 Week
Mustafa Çakıl, a 56-year-old man who suffered a heart attack in March, underwent a groundbreaking heart surgery just 10 days ago. Typically, a patient in Çakıl’s condition would require at least 45 days of hospitalization. However, due to the innovative operation performed by Turkish doctors, he was able to return to his normal life in just 1 week.
The surgery, which will soon be documented in medical literature, was described by Cardiovascular Surgeon Professor Doctor Serkan Durdu as a procedure involving the replacement of the valve, coronary vessels, the main vein, and veins going to the brain. Remarkably, this was all done through a 2 cm incision without opening the rib cage. What sets this operation apart is the use of both a biological valve and vessel, a unique feature not found in any international medical literature.
Cardiovascular Surgeon Professor Doctor Cengiz Bolcal also highlighted the significance of this case, stating that after conducting a thorough review, no similar article had been found in internationally respected journals. As a result, the findings of Çakıl’s operation have been promptly submitted to an international medical journal.
Performed at a private hospital in Ankara, the surgery utilized a minimally invasive technique, with an incision as small as the vessels leading to the brain. During the procedure, Çakıl’s aortic valve, carotid artery, aortic root, and aortic vessel were replaced using a fully biological valve and vessel for the very first time.
Reflecting on his experience, Mustafa Çakıl expressed his gratitude, stating, “I left the intensive care unit in 2 days. I came to my room and started walking after an hour.
