Turkish Minister Akar addresses evacuation of citizens from Sudan

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar has commented on the recent clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK) in Sudan and the opening of fire on a Turkish military aircraft during the evacuation of Turkish citizens. Akar stressed the importance of establishing a ceasefire in Sudan and ensuring the safety of all citizens, including Turkish nationals.

The evacuation efforts are being carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in line with the directives of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Akar reported that all citizens gathered in the Port Sudan and Khartoum regions were safely evacuated without any incidents.

In response to a question about the situation of the TSK plane, which was fired upon while landing at the airport, Akar explained that one of the C-130 type planes had landed at Wadi Sayidna Airport in the north of Khartoum. While there was a small gunfire during the landing of the second plane, it was able to safely land as well. The necessary precautions were taken, and the plane returned to Turkey.

The Armed Forces deployed three C-130 type aircraft and two A400 M aircraft to carry out the evacuation of 479 Turkish citizens. The evacuation efforts continue to be coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safe return of all citizens.

The Turkish government is committed to providing essential support to Turkish citizens in Sudan during these turbulent times. The Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with other government agencies, will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary actions to ensure the safety of all citizens.
