“Turkish Producer and Market Prices for April Revealed by TZOB President Bayraktar”

Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Confederation (TZOB) President, Bayraktar, has spoken out regarding the significant price differences between producers and the market during April, as well as the rise of input prices. According to Bayraktar, in April, lemons saw the highest price difference between the producer and the market with an increase of 573.6%. In addition, there was a 261.2% increase in the price of apples, 209.8% in raisins, 181% in dried figs, and 179.1% in spinach, eggplant with 177.5%, green pepper with 175.8%, parsley with 175.7%, red lentils with 152.9%. Many products had been sold at the market for 2.5 – 6.7 times more than producers had originally sold them for. Bayraktar stated that of the 36 products in the market, 23 saw a price increase, while thirteen experienced a decrease for the same period. The product with the highest price increase was potato at 41.9%, with carrots and dried onion being 24.9% and 18.7% more expensive than in March, respectively. The product with the largest decrease in price was pumpkin, falling by 26%. The decrease in sharp pepper’s, cucumber’s, zucchini’s, and eggplant’s prices was due to a higher supply of these products during the growing season caused by warmer weather. The decrease in demand for lemons lowered their prices. The increase in the price of lettuce, spinach, and green onions was due to a decrease in their product supply during the rainy weather. According to Bayraktar, the change in supply and demand resulted in meat prices increasing.
