Turkmen Avaza Orient: New Name for UN Landlocked Developing Countries Programme

The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution to convene the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan. The conference is set to take place in Avaza from August 5 to 8, 2025, and is expected to be attended by Heads of State and Government.

The theme of the conference, titled “Driving progress through partnerships,” aims to address the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries and explore opportunities for collaboration and development. The Government of Turkmenistan has generously offered to host the event, which has been welcomed and accepted by the Assembly.

Following the conference, the Ten-Year Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries (2024–2034) will be renamed the Avaza Programme. The resolution was passed by consensus with the support of 57 UN member states.

This decision underscores the importance of international cooperation in advancing the development goals of landlocked developing countries. The upcoming conference in Turkmenistan is expected to pave the way for increased partnership and progress in this regard.
