Turkmen Carpet Exhibition Unveiled in Romania
An exhibition showcasing the beauty and artistry of Turkmen carpets has opened at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest on March 25, 2025. Titled “Heavenly Beauty – The Turkmen Carpet,” the exhibition is a collaboration between the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania and the State Association “Türkmenhaly,” in honor of the “International Year of Peace and Trust” and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including representatives of diplomatic missions in Romania, members of Parliament, ministry heads, academic intellectuals, museum staff, Turkmen students studying in Romania, and media representatives. The opening ceremony featured speeches by prominent figures such as Chynar Rustamova, Diana Baciuna, Annamammet Annayev, and Virgiliu-Ştefan Niţulescu.
Turkmen carpets have a long history of being appreciated for their artistic value and luxury. They have been displayed in museums and galleries worldwide, captivating art enthusiasts with their intricate designs. The exhibition highlighted the cultural significance of Turkmen carpets, which have been a symbol of the Turkmen people’s heritage for centuries.
The art of carpet weaving in Turkmenistan, especially by female artisans, has been admired globally. The revival of the Great Silk Road has further enhanced the trade and economic ties between countries, allowing Turkmen carpets to reach a wider audience.
The speakers emphasized the inclusion of Turkmen carpet weaving in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognizing its importance on a global scale. The State Association “Türkmenhaly” was also acknowledged for its contributions to preserving this ancient art form.
The exhibition features a collection of exquisite carpets, artistic paintings, and national jewelry that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Turkmenistan.
