Turkmen-Chinese Inter-Ministerial Consultations Strengthen Bilateral Relations
On January 15, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted political consultations between Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China, aimed at bolstering diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two nations.
The Turkmen delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akhmet Gurbanov, engaged in discussions with the Chinese delegation, headed by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Bin. The meeting focused on various aspects of the bilateral agenda, including political dialogue, trade, economic collaboration, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian partnerships.
Both sides emphasized the significance of ongoing high-level engagements and interdepartmental communications in advancing comprehensive strategic relations. The delegations also discussed the involvement of China in upcoming events as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
In addition, the importance of parliamentary and party relations, as well as the practical implementation of cooperation agreements between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and China, was highlighted during the consultations. The Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was recognized as a crucial mechanism for promoting sustainable and long-term dialogue between the two countries.
A considerable part of the discussions centered on expanding trade and economic ties, with China being Turkmenistan’s largest foreign economic partner for many years. The parties also acknowledged the role of science, education, culture, art, and sports in fostering closer bonds between the friendly peoples of Turkmenistan and China.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both delegations expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
Simultaneously, the 10th meeting of the Subcommittee on Security Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee took place. Key officials from both countries discussed the implementation of previous agreements and outlined joint activities in the security realm for the near future.
The parties reaffirmed their determination to strengthen security cooperation and signed the Protocol of the 10th meeting of the Subcommittee on Security Cooperation, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
Overall, the Turkmen-Chinese inter-Ministerial consultations served as a platform for deepening collaboration and fostering stronger ties between Turkmenistan and China across various sectors, paving the way for a more robust partnership in the years to come.
