Strengthening Economic Ties: Tajikistan and Turkmenistan Discuss Mutual Trade
On April 28, 2023, in the city of Arkadag, key discussions took place between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, and the Minister of Economy and Finance of Turkmenistan, Mammetguly Astangulov. The focus of their meeting was to explore ways to enhance mutual trade between their two nations, as reported by Tajikistan’s National Information Agency, "Khovar."
Mr. Zavkizoda emphasized the significant progress in bilateral relations, attributing this growth to the effective and strategic policies of the nations’ leaders—President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan. He noted that their collaborative efforts have fostered an environment where trade and economic relations have flourished.
Both ministers expressed a commitment to increasing not only the volume of mutual trade but also freight transport and the transit of goods. They acknowledged the importance of deepening industrial cooperation to stimulate economic growth.
During the meeting, the Tajik delegation extended an invitation to Turkmenistan to participate in the upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation, scheduled for May 29 to 31, 2025, in Dushanbe. This initiative highlights the shared environmental concerns and collaborative spirit between the two countries.
In conclusion, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to meet the directives set forth by their heads of state, signifying a continued partnership aimed at mutual economic benefit.
