
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Discuss Cooperation on the Amu Darya River

A delegation from the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan visited Turkmenistan on March 16 for a working visit, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the water sector.
The meeting took place in Turkmenabat, where heads and specialists from both countries discussed various issues related to water management. The focus was on the operation and modernization of water facilities, flood control measures, bank protection works on the Amu Darya River, and the efficient use of water resources.
After the talks, the two parties agreed on joint steps to implement the agreements reached at the 4th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on water management. They also committed to collaborating closely on hydrotechnical measures to prevent losses and better utilize the Amu Darya River flow.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached to conduct joint research on transboundary water bodies, exchange experiences in water-saving technologies, digitalize water resource management, and cooperate in training personnel in the water management sector.
During the visit, representatives from both countries visited the Tuyamuyun hydroelectric complex to discuss measures to enhance their functioning.
This visit marks a significant step towards deeper collaboration between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in managing water resources effectively.
