Turkmenistan President Meets South Korean Ambassador
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan, Ji Kyu-taek, on June 12, 2023. During this meeting, the ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state and conveyed warm words of greeting from President Yun Sok Yol of the Republic of Korea to the Turkmen people. The ambassador also confirmed the Korean side’s interest in strengthening traditional interstate relations based on the principles of mutual respect, trust, and constructive cooperation.
President Berdimuhamedov thanked the ambassador for his kind words and congratulated him on his appointment. He wished the Korean diplomat success in fulfilling this important mission for further development in the fruitful Turkmen-Korean dialogue. The head of state also conveyed greetings to President Yun Sok-yeol and noted that Turkmenistan highly values its cooperation with the Republic of Korea and aims to build it progressively in various fields.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the dynamic nature of their interstate partnership in a bilateral format and within the framework of authoritative international structures, primarily the UN. Effective coordination of interaction in the international arena is based on the similarity or closeness of positions of the parties on issues such as maintaining global peace and ensuring sustainable development.
An example of a successful dialogue in a multilateral format is the established productive contacts within the framework of the Cooperation Forum “Central Asia – the Republic of Korea”. It was also emphasized that inter-parliamentary partnership has intensified in recent years, complementing the multifaceted Turkmen-Korean relations.
In terms of their bilateral trade and economic relations, the Republic of Korea is one of the key partners of Turkmenistan. Over the years, the largest Korean companies have been involved in the implementation of various projects in the gas and chemical industries of Turkmenistan. The country also widely uses cars and specialized equipment manufactured by the Republic of Korea.
Finally, cultural and humanitarian dialogue was highlighted as an essential component of their expanded interstate relations. They discussed cooperation in the fields of education, culture, sports, tourism, and healthcare. Both President Berdimuhamedov and Ambassador Ji Kyu-taek expressed confidence that their traditionally friendly interstate dialogue would continue to develop successfully across its entire spectrum, filled with new concrete content.
