Turkmenistan Triumphs at the West Asian Youth Chess Championship
The West Asian Youth Chess Championship unfolded in Dushanbe from April 20th to 29th, 2025, drawing over 200 talented young chess players from 12 countries across the region. The event showcased an impressive display of skill and sportsmanship, with participants competing in various categories.
Representing Turkmenistan, a dedicated team of 17 young chess players took to the chessboards, showing remarkable preparation and determination. Their hard work paid off as they secured notable achievements throughout the tournament.
Among the standout performers was Leyla Shohradova, who clinched a gold medal in her age category by accumulating an impressive 8.5 points out of a possible 9. Her exceptional performance demonstrated not only her skill but also her potential to excel in future competitions. Another promising talent, Charyyev Charyhekim, finished among the top three in his group, further underscoring Turkmenistan’s bright prospects in youth chess.
In the team standings for participants under the age of 10, the Turkmenistan national team celebrated additional successes, winning bronze medals in blitz, rapid, and classical disciplines. Overall, Turkmen chess players returned from the championship with an impressive tally: one gold and four bronze medals, reinforcing their credibility and potential on the international stage.
The outstanding performance of these young athletes highlights the growing prominence of chess in Turkmenistan and the nation’s commitment to fostering a new generation of talent in the world of chess.
