Construction crane accident narrowly avoids tragedy in Avcılar
An alarming incident took place in Avcılar Merkez Mahallesi Fırın Sokak, where a construction crane fell sideways, narrowly missing two individuals and damaging a parked car in the process.
The accident occurred during construction work when the soil under one of the truck crane’s wheels collapsed, causing the crane to tip over onto its side. Part of the crane then fell onto a nearby parked car, causing significant damage. Fortunately, two people who were near the car at the time managed to escape unharmed.
Upon receiving the alert, police and medical teams quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. One construction worker was injured during the incident and was promptly transported to the hospital via ambulance for treatment.
The area was cordoned off with a security strip as police officers worked to investigate the cause of the accident. Footage captured by a security camera from a nearby building showed the exact moment when the crane toppled onto the vehicle while another crane was used to lift and straighten the fallen one.
Local tradesman Ramazan Özkan commented on the incident, stating, “There is construction occurring nearby, and the ground had weakened due to excavation. The crane’s weight was too much for the weakened ground, causing it to collapse, and the crane to fall. Fortunately, the car in front of my shop was parked at the time. A girl and a man managed to escape in mere seconds. It was a close call. Everyone in the neighborhood was in shock, as the situation could have been much worse.”
Authorities managed to remove the fallen crane, averting a potential disaster. As investigations continue, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining safety protocols and ensuring the stability of construction equipment to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
