UK Election: Polls Close and Voting Comes to an End
Over 127,000 Turkish citizens registered to vote in England were able to cast their ballots between April 29 and May 7 at various polling stations set up in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Leicester. The voting process ended smoothly and peacefully, according to Turkey’s Ambassador to London, Osman Koray Ertaş. He also thanked political party representatives and public officials for their help in ensuring a smooth election process. Approximately 60,000 votes were estimated to have been cast, but the official results will be announced by the Supreme Election Council (YSK). The ballot boxes were securely stored until they were transferred to Turkey on May 10 on a charter flight of Turkish Airlines. Seyfi Onur Sayın, Turkey’s Consul General in Manchester, also praised the smooth and comfortable election process that voters experienced in the city. In Edinburgh, the nine-day voting period saw a higher turnout than the 2018 elections, with no problems or queues.
