“UK Evacuates Over 1800 Citizens from Sudan Amidst Crisis”

The United Kingdom concludes its largest and longest-lasting evacuation operation in Sudan, as the last plane took off from Wadi Saeedna airbase. The UK Foreign Ministry announced that 21 flights were made in total, and 1888 people were evacuated. The focus will now shift to providing consular services to citizens going to Port Sudan and its surrounding countries.
Foreign Minister James Cleverly stated that they will continue to use diplomatic instruments to ensure a long-term ceasefire and stop the bloodshed. For the safety and welfare of the Sudanese people, it will ultimately be best to move towards stable civilian rule.
Britain had evacuated its diplomats and their families on April 23, but British civilian citizens in the country expressed their dismay over not receiving any information about the evacuation. The UK warned its citizens to stay indoors and wait for news while evacuating the citizens of many countries. For this reason, British citizens refused evacuation opportunities provided by other countries.
There are approximately 4,000 people with British passports estimated to be in Sudan. However, the UK made its first evacuation flight on the 10th day of the conflict, focusing primarily on families with children and the sick and elderly. The government will continue to monitor the situation in Sudan and provide support to its citizens in the affected areas.
