UNDP and Partners Collaborate on Aligning Public Budget with Sustainable Development Goals
A recent webinar hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, titled ‘Partnering for SDG Acceleration, Phase III,’ brought together over 20 representatives from various national ministries and departments. The webinar, which took place on February 5, focused on exploring the potential for integrating sustainable development principles into budget planning in Turkmenistan.
During the webinar, participants were introduced to global trends and best practices in budgeting for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session also covered the theoretical foundations and methodology of the Rapid Integrated Assessment (RIA) for government funding, as well as approaches to developing budget programs that align with SDG priorities.
Ms. Bakytgul Khambar, UNDP international expert, highlighted the importance of conducting a quick comprehensive assessment to integrate sustainable development principles into budget planning. This assessment will analyze the capabilities and potential of Turkmenistan’s budget system for implementing long-term sustainable development strategies. It will also serve as the foundation for the introduction of Integrated National Financing Mechanisms (INFF) in line with national priorities.
The collaboration between UNDP and the Turkmenistan government aims to advance financing for sustainable development in the country. By incorporating SDG principles into budget planning, Turkmenistan can better align its financial resources with its long-term development goals.
Overall, the webinar provided valuable insights and strategies for Turkmenistan to enhance its budget planning processes in support of sustainable development efforts.
