Unexploded Bomb Transported 2.3 Kilometers Through City Streets
A 500-kilogram bomb from World War II was safely disposed of in the city of Plymouth, UK
Devon and Cornwall Police recently announced that a 500-kilogram bomb, dating back to July 1940 when German bombers targeted the city of Plymouth, was safely thrown into the sea after being discovered in a garden. The police, in collaboration with the army, successfully removed the bomb from the area, allowing evacuated residents to return home as the security cordon was lifted.
Residents in the Keyham and Devonport areas received emergency warnings to evacuate before the operation took place. Over ten thousand residents were evacuated, and a 300-meter cordon was set up around the bomb disposal route to ensure safety.
The transportation services like trains and buses were also halted while the unexploded bomb was transported 2.3 kilometers through the city streets. This evacuation and disposal operation is being touted as one of the largest peacetime evacuations in Britain since World War II.
The controlled destruction of the unexploded bomb is scheduled for tomorrow, following all safety protocols. British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps commended the courage and dedication of all personnel involved in this complex operation.
