UNRWA committed to remaining in Rafah as long as possible
The United Nations Palestine Agency (UNRWA) has affirmed its commitment to remaining in Rafah despite the possibility of an Israeli military operation in the area. In a recent statement, UNRWA stated that evacuating would only lead to more suffering and death for the 1.4 million civilians in Rafah.
UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini emphasized that what is truly needed in Gaza is a ceasefire, not the fear of forced migration and endless suffering. Lazzarini highlighted that an Israeli attack in Rafah would only worsen the already dire situation for the people in Gaza, making it even harder to address the existing crisis of famine.
The agency pledged to stay in Rafah for as long as possible and continue providing life-saving assistance to those in need. UNRWA, along with its partners, aims to support the civilians in Rafah and mitigate the impact of any potential military operation on the area.
As tensions escalate in the region, UNRWA remains steadfast in its mission to aid and support the people of Gaza, advocating for peace and calling for a ceasefire to prevent further harm and devastation.
