UNRWA Spain Director Warns of Potential Massacre if Israel Invades Rafah

The situation in Rafah, Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate as Israel’s threats loom large over the region. During a meeting with MPs in the Extremadura autonomous government parliament in Caceres, Spain, Marti expressed his concerns about the potential for a greater massacre if Israel invades Rafah.
Marti highlighted the unhealthy living conditions in the tents in Rafah, with over 300 thousand people currently suffering from various health problems due to Israel’s water cuts and the use of dirty water. The lack of access to proper medical care and essential supplies has led to a sharp increase in deaths in hospitals, particularly among children.
With no ceasefire in sight, Gaza remains heavily dependent on humanitarian aid to survive. Marti emphasized that the destruction and loss of life in the region have reached unprecedented levels, with organizations like the World Health Organization and Doctors Without Borders struggling to cope with the overwhelming demand for medical assistance.
UNRWA, which currently houses around 1 million people in its facilities in Gaza, is primarily catering to women and children who have been disproportionately affected by the conflict. Marti pointed out that the number of child victims in this war is staggering, with 14,500 children already killed and approximately 600 journalists and NGO volunteers also losing their lives.
The situation in Rafah is dire, and urgent international intervention is needed to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of this devastating conflict.
