Unsolved Mystery: The Last Minute Milliyet Murder
EREN KOCA/NEWS CENTER- In the ongoing investigation of the murder of Narin Güran, 11 individuals, including her mother and brother, have been arrested. Despite the arrests, the identity of the murderer remains unclear, leaving many wondering why the case has not yet been solved. Experts shared their insights with Milliyet on the challenges of solving this murder mystery.
Retired Supreme Court of Appeals Public Prosecutor Ruşen Gültekin stated, “The prosecutor in charge of the case has already solved the situation. We are awaiting the indictment to officially identify the murderer, which is expected to be prepared within the next 2 months.”
Professor Dr. Adem Sözüer, Head of the Department of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law at Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Law, highlighted the influence of “strong families” and hierarchical relationships in such cases, leading individuals to remain silent out of fear or loyalty to their families. This silence poses a major challenge for the investigation.
Retired Police Chief Haydar Özdemir emphasized that the identity of the murderer is already known from the court’s perspective, pointing to evidence linking one individual, Nevzat Bahtiyar, to the crime. However, getting individuals to come forward and provide concrete evidence remains a challenge.
Senior Security Advisor Feramuz Erdin shed light on the cultural norms that contribute to the silence of villagers and reluctance to share information. The fear of being labeled as an informer or causing internal strife within the community further complicates the situation. Despite the suspects likely knowing the identity of the murderer, they remain silent, complicating the investigation.
As the investigation into Narin Güran’s murder continues, the challenges of solving the case persist due to complex familial dynamics, cultural norms, and fear of retribution. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth and bring justice to the victim and her family.
