Unveiling the Unique Medals of the Paris Olympic Games

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games are set to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024, and the official medals for the event have been unveiled.

Unlike the thousands of medals awarded since the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, the medalists of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris will receive medals adorned with a hexagonal piece of iron extracted from the Eiffel Tower, one of the most iconic symbols of France.

The design of the medals was created by the French jewelry house Chaumet, in collaboration with a special commission of athletes. According to Tony Estange, President of the Paris 2024 Games Organizing Committee, the decision to incorporate the iron piece from the Eiffel Tower was made to make the medals unique and special, with the iron part fixed in the center, resembling a precious stone.

The choice of a hexagon holds significance as well, as France is often referred to as the “hexagon” due to its advantageous geographical position, surrounded by mountains, seas, and the ocean, and boasting beautiful landscapes and rivers.

The Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.

The unveiling of these unique and symbolic medals adds to the anticipation of what promises to be an exceptional Olympic Games in the City of Light.
