US Air Drop Provides Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
Three US Army C-130 cargo planes delivered humanitarian aid to Gaza today, according to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The aid was airlifted to Gaza in a joint operation with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, dropping pallets containing approximately 38 thousand meals of food along the coastline of Gaza.
The ongoing efforts to provide aid to Gaza include expanding aid flow through land corridors and routes, as stated in the CENTCOM’s statement. This method of aid delivery comes as a response to the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza, where a quarter of the 2.3 million population is facing severe hunger.
While airdropped aid may not be the most effective distribution method, it is considered a last resort measure by United Nations (UN) officials. Previous attempts by Jordan and Egypt to deliver aid to Gaza by air were made due to restrictions on land access imposed by Israel.
The recent attack by the Israeli army on Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza city on February 29 resulted in the loss of 116 lives and over 760 injuries. The government in Gaza condemned the attack, describing it as “deliberate and planned,” emphasizing that the victims were targeted while seeking essential aid.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical, with international efforts ongoing to provide much-needed assistance to the population. The airdrop of aid by the US Army serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in delivering aid to those in need in conflict-affected areas like Gaza.
