US and UK Launch 10 Attacks on Yemen’s Hudaydah: Houthis Targeted
The recent air strikes in the al-Jabane region of Hudaydah, Yemen, by the USA and the UK have brought attention to the ongoing conflict in the Red Sea region.
Reports from the Houthis’ Al-Mesirah television indicated that multiple air attacks were carried out in the Cebane and al-Faze regions of Hudaydah. It was mentioned that the Houthis have “air defense headquarters” in the Cebane region.
The situation in the Red Sea has escalated in recent months, with the Houthis targeting commercial ships off the coast of Yemen, claiming affiliation with Israeli companies as a response to attacks in Gaza. This has led to disruptions in global maritime trade, prompting the formation of a multinational “maritime task force” named “Operation Welfare Guardian” by the USA on December 18, 2023.
US forces have intervened by shooting down missiles and drones launched from Yemen, while the European Union launched the Aspides mission for navigation safety in the Red Sea. Italy has also joined this mission to support maritime security in the region.
With approximately 12 percent of global trade passing through the Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, the need for stability and security in the region is crucial for maintaining international trade routes between Europe and Asia. The ongoing conflict in the Red Sea continues to be a concern for countries involved in maritime activities in the region.
