US Announces New Sanctions on Russia’s Access to War Equipment
The United States has recently imposed new sanctions on Russia, specifically targeting its access to war equipment. The move comes as a further implementation of the commitments made by the G7 leaders in February and May, as stated by the US Treasury Department.
In an official statement, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the State Department highlighted their efforts to prevent Russia from accessing products that support its military and war efforts. The sanctions are aimed at reducing Russia’s revenue from the metals and mining sector, undermining its future energy capacity, limiting the country’s access to the international financial system, and depriving it of aerospace and defense technologies.
US Deputy Treasury Secretary, Wally Adeyemo, emphasized that these sanctions are designed to curb Russia’s military capabilities, access to battlefield supplies, and economic profitability. He stated, “As long as Russia continues its unreasonable and ruthless war against Ukraine, we will impose sanctions to deprive Russia of the technology it needs and disrupt the supply capability of the Russian arms industry.”
The latest sanctions list includes 18 individuals and a variety of organizations, such as technology suppliers, importers, and developers supporting the defense industry sector. Additionally, financial institutions providing access to the international financial system were also targeted. Notably, 14 ships affiliated with the Russian shipping company SASCO, which plays a significant role in supporting various energy projects in Russia, were included in the sanction list.
These new sanctions reflect the ongoing effort by the United States to put pressure on Russia for its actions in Ukraine and to limit its military capabilities.
