US Intelligence Claims Ukraine is Planning Attack on Nord Stream

According to a report in the Washington Post, the CIA had access to intelligence information revealing that a team of Ukrainian special operations forces was planning to sabotage the Nord Stream pipeline, which carries Russian gas to Europe. The report claims that the Joe Biden administration learned of the plan through a close ally of the United States in June 2022. The plan involved a small team of divers who were directly subordinate to the Ukrainian Chief of Staff and would attack the submarine network of the Nord Stream pipelines.

The intelligence report, collected by a European intelligence service, has allegedly provided “some of the clearest evidence” linking the September 2022 attack on the Nord Stream pipelines to the Ukrainian government. The report also stated that Western allies had been aware of this information for about a year.

The Washington Post received the reports from Air National Guard soldier Jack Teixeira on the Discord chat platform. The intelligence summary published on Discord by officials from multiple countries confirmed what the European intelligence service had told the CIA. However, the European country involved was not disclosed.

The White House, CIA, and Ukrainian officials have refused to comment on the issue. In March, German authorities revealed evidence suggesting that a pro-Ukrainian group sabotaged the Nord Stream pipelines last year. They chartered a yacht with fake passports and caused extensive damage to the pipelines connecting Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea. Along with Germany, Denmark and Sweden are also investigating the sabotage incident.
