US Investigates Iran’s Alleged Role in Base Attack
The White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby recently spoke out about the recent attack on a US military base in a press briefing. Kirby stated that President Joe Biden has made a decision on how to respond to the attack after discussing all the details at the National Security Council.
Kirby mentioned that Iran has been known to supply weapons for attacks against American military elements in the region and that they are currently investigating whether Tehran had a direct connection to the latest attack. He also pointed out that the Pentagon is still working on identifying the UAV used in the attack.
When asked about the size and course of the US military response, Kirby mentioned that it would likely involve a multi-layered approach spread over time, rather than a single action. He did not go into detail about where and how the USA would attack, but emphasized that it would be a multi-layered response.
The drone attack on the US military base on the Jordan-Syria border on January 28 resulted in 3 US soldiers being killed and more than 40 injured. US officials, including President Biden, have attributed the attack to Iran-backed groups and have vowed to respond at a time and place of their choosing. President Biden has also indirectly held Iran responsible for providing weapons for the attack.
However, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kenani has rejected the allegations, denying any link between Iran and the attack. The situation continues to develop as the US plans its response to the attack on its military base.
