US: No encouragement for Ukraine to conduct cross-border attacks
White House Responds to Reports of Ukrainian Attempt on Putin’s Residence
White House Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre has addressed reports of an alleged attempt by Ukraine to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Kremlin using a drone. Speaking at a daily press conference, Jean-Pierre said that while they are aware of the news, they cannot confirm its veracity.
Jean-Pierre also stated that the US has never encouraged or allowed Ukraine to carry out attacks beyond its borders since the beginning of the war, and they remain clear on this issue. When asked about the possibility of Russia carrying out a false flag operation to blame the other side, Jean-Pierre said that it is too early to speculate, but Russia has done such things in the past.
In addition, Jean-Pierre was questioned about the Wall Street Journal’s report that the US has started to directly talk with the Syrian regime regarding the release of American journalist Austin Tice, who has been held hostage in Syria since 2012. However, Jean-Pierre did not confirm any talks that may have taken place, stating that negotiations carried out to ensure the release of detained Americans are sensitive.
Jean-Pierre also confirmed that there is no up-to-date information on Tice’s condition, but President Joe Biden is determined to bring home Americans who have been wrongfully detained and held hostage. Jean-Pierre assured that they are doing everything they can to bring Tice home.
