USA and Japan Collaborate on Joint Missile Production
The Japanese Ministry of Defense has announced a significant development in cooperation with the United States. According to a report from Japanese media outlet Nikkei Asia, both parties have agreed to launch a feasibility study on joint production following a meeting held in Hawaii.
The joint production would focus on the AIM-120 medium-range AMRAAM missiles, and the feasibility study will address challenges, delivery times, and feasible production activities in Japan. This agreement marks a step towards closer collaboration between Japan and the US in the defense sector.
In the past, the USA has provided medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) to countries like Israel and Ukraine. The potential joint production of these missiles signifies a deeper level of partnership between Japan and the United States in enhancing their defense capabilities.
This cooperation is expected to strengthen the defense ties between the two nations and contribute to regional security in the Indo-Pacific region. The outcome of the feasibility study will determine the next steps in implementing joint production of the AIM-120 missiles.
