Uzbek Language Finals Now Required for All Graduates in Uzbekistan

Grade 11 students in Uzbekistan will soon face new requirements for their final assessments. In addition to compulsory and elective subjects, students will now also be required to take an examination in the state language, according to a recent decree by the Minister of Preschool and School Education.

The Ministry of Preschool and School Education will approve the list, format, and schedule of subjects for final assessment each academic year. For schools where the language of instruction is not Uzbek, the state language will be included as a compulsory subject for graduating students.

The final state attestation will assess students in both mandatory and elective subjects, allowing students to choose subjects that align with their intended university majors. Public oversight boards and citizen organizations may also participate as observers during the evaluation process.

Students holding nationally or internationally recognized certificates in foreign languages or general education subjects will be exempt from corresponding final exams, with the approved list of certificates determined by the Ministry.

Starting in 2025, 11th-grade students in schools where instruction is not in Uzbek will also be required to take final exams in the state language. These new regulations aim to ensure students have a well-rounded education and proficiency in the Uzbek language, in addition to their chosen subjects.
