Uzbekistan Airways to Expand Fleet with 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners by 2032

Uzbekistan Airways, the national carrier of Uzbekistan, is gearing up for a significant expansion with the planned acquisition of 14 long-haul Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The memorandum for this deal is set to be signed with Boeing, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032. The announcement was made by Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of the airline’s Board.

In a move to secure financing for the transportation sector, the president of Uzbekistan has instructed to attract $400 million from international financial markets, with $100 million specifically allocated for Uzbekistan Airways. Khudaykulov is confident that an agreement with Germany’s Deutsche Bank will be reached in the coming months to secure this financing.

The funds raised will primarily be utilized to enhance the airline’s infrastructure and expand its fleet. In addition to the 14 Boeing aircraft, Uzbekistan Airways is also expecting the delivery of 14 Airbus aircraft between 2028 and 2030, as part of a contract signed during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to France. The airline has already initiated payments for this contract and additional loans will be utilized for this purpose.

Khudaykulov stated, “This year, the airline will sign a memorandum with Boeing for the delivery of 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners between 2029 and 2032. The estimated cost of the project is $2 billion.” He emphasized that the $100 million expected to be raised this year is just the beginning of the ongoing effort.

Currently, Uzbekistan Airways operates six Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, with the first one delivered in August 2016 and the latest one arriving in April 2021. With the planned expansion of its fleet, the airline is poised for growth and modernization in the coming years.
