Uzbekistan and Latvia Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador, Timur Rakhmanov, recently had a productive meeting with members of the Uzbek-Latvian Friendship Group within the Latvian Parliament, Oleg Burovs and Amils Salimovs. The meeting focused on discussing the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia, as well as issues related to the development and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
One of the key topics of discussion was the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in October of this year. The Uzbek side provided the Latvian counterparts with information about the elections, which will be conducted under a mixed majoritarian-proportional system. The Latvian deputies expressed their high praise for the political and socio-economic reforms underway in Uzbekistan, as well as the foreign policy efforts led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which have contributed to strengthening mutual trust in the Central Asian region.
The Latvian deputies also noted the increasing interest of Latvian companies in establishing ties with Uzbek businessmen, thanks to the positive developments in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan has now become one of Latvia’s key partners in Central Asia, and both sides expressed their readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in enhancing trade and economic cooperation, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a visit by representatives of the Latvian Parliament to Uzbekistan in November-December, further facilitating dialogue and cooperation between the two countries. The meeting underscored the importance of strong bilateral relations and the mutual benefits that can be derived from continued cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia.
