Uzbekistan Approves ILO Convention on Part-Time Work
The Senate of Uzbekistan has taken a significant step in protecting the rights of part-time workers by approving the ratification of the ILO Part-Time Work Convention. This convention, adopted in Geneva in 1994, aims to ensure fair working conditions and prevent discrimination against part-time employees in terms of wages and social security.
Under the provisions of the convention, part-time workers should receive equitable pay compared to full-time workers when calculated either hourly or based on output. They should also have access to paid leave, sick leave, and maternity leave on par with their full-time counterparts. Additionally, part-time workers should be entitled to the same rights as full-time employees in areas such as occupational safety, hygiene, and collective agreements.
The ratification of this convention by Uzbekistan will bring the total number of countries who have ratified it to 20, including Australia, Finland, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Senators emphasized that this move will help uphold international labor standards and safeguard the rights of part-time workers in the country.
Uzbekistan has continued to show its commitment to international labor regulations by becoming a party to various ILO agreements this year, such as the Convention on Wage Protection and the Convention on the Protection of Workers with Family Responsibilities. This demonstrates the country’s dedication to promoting fair and just working conditions for all workers, regardless of their employment status.
