Uzbekistan brings back 16 parentless children from Russia
Sixteen underage citizens of Uzbekistan who were left without parental care in St. Petersburg, Russia have been successfully repatriated back to their home country. Out of the 16 children, 11 were reunited with their parents upon arrival, while the remaining five were placed under the guardianship of relatives.
The repatriation process was coordinated by the National Agency for Social Protection, with the children being accompanied by representatives from the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Health. Uzbekistan’s consular offices in St. Petersburg and Moscow also played a crucial role in identifying the children as Uzbek citizens and facilitating their return by issuing necessary travel documents.
Upon reaching Tashkent, the children were temporarily housed at the Center for Social and Legal Assistance to Minors, which operates under the city’s Department of Internal Affairs. Parents and close relatives, who had been pre-approved as guardians by the ‘Inson’ Social Services Centers, welcomed the children at the center. They will continue to receive social support at their new homes.
This repatriation operation exemplifies the collaborative efforts between Uzbekistan’s government agencies and foreign diplomatic missions to safeguard vulnerable citizens abroad and ensure their smooth reintegration into society. Such initiatives demonstrate a commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of all citizens, especially those in vulnerable situations.
