Uzbekistan citizen wrongly imprisoned in Qatar finally reunited with family

Uzbek Citizen Wrongfully Detained in Qatar Safely Returns Home

An Uzbek citizen who was wrongfully accused and detained in Qatar has safely returned to Uzbekistan with the help of Uzbek diplomats. The individual, identified only as Kh.N., had traveled to Doha in May 2024 to work at a beauty salon but was arrested in August following false allegations made by their employer.

After being ordered to leave the salon premises, Kh.N. sought shelter in a hotel, only to be detained by local police on charges of fleeing and theft. In a bid to seek justice, Kh.N. reached out to the Uzbek embassy in Qatar for assistance. The Uzbek diplomats provided consular and legal support, as well as temporary housing and food during the ordeal, ultimately leading to the individual’s release.

Despite being falsely accused and sentenced to a one-year prison term, Uzbek diplomats tirelessly negotiated with Qatari authorities. After eight months of efforts, Kh.N. was found not guilty and released from custody. All travel restrictions preventing them from leaving Qatar were lifted, and on March 5, Kh.N. returned to Uzbekistan on a direct flight from Doha to Tashkent.

This successful repatriation effort is part of a larger initiative by Uzbek authorities to bring back citizens who have been left without parental care or faced legal issues in foreign countries. In recent months, several children and adults stranded abroad have been reunited with their families in Uzbekistan, showcasing the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens wherever they may be.
