Uzbekistan Halts Leapmotor Vehicle Imports

The certification of Leapmotor-branded vehicles in Uzbekistan has hit a roadblock as the Technical Regulation Agency has temporarily suspended it due to technical deficiencies found in the Leapmotor C16 model.

The Uzbekistan Technical Regulation Agency has issued a warning letter to certification bodies informing them of the suspension. This decision came after an issue was detected in the Leapmotor C16 vehicle.

In a letter from EURO PROF TEST LLC dated March 28, 2025, it was highlighted that the Leapmotor C16 (VIN LFZ93AN96RD091431) did not meet the requirements specified in Regulation Appendix 3, Clause 44. The non-compliance could potentially lead to electronic malfunctions or failures in related systems, causing operational issues when using the vehicle’s electronics or other components.

To ensure consumer safety and rights, the Technical Regulation Agency has stopped accepting certification applications for Leapmotor M1-category vehicles until the manufacturer addresses and rectifies the identified defects.

Reports have also surfaced about long queues at the vehicle testing laboratory in Piskent district, where imported cars undergo inspections. Customs-related bloggers have mentioned that the online appointment system for vehicle testing opens at midnight but gets fully booked within a minute.

This development serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent quality checks and regulations in the automotive industry to prevent any potential risks or hazards to consumers.
