Uzbekistan Names New Consul General in Jeddah

The Consul General of Uzbekistan, Sirojiddin Shamshutdinov, recently had a meeting with Ahmed Mohammed Qutb, the First Deputy Director General of the Jeddah branch of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the strong and trusting relationship between their nations, which has led to increased cooperation and mutual visits across various sectors.

The Saudi representative commended the close ties between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, noting that it has brought their interstate relations to a new level of quality and substance. He also praised the participation of Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, in a recent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Jeddah.

Shamshutdinov took the opportunity to outline the extensive reforms taking place in Uzbekistan, covering economic, political, scientific-educational, and religious areas. The Saudi side expressed its readiness to enhance trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, and consular-legal ties with Uzbekistan, with the support of the Consul General in Jeddah.

Shamshutdinov, who previously worked in Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Jeddah from 2017 to 2021. Fluent in Arabic and English, he has now taken on the role of Consul General in Saudi Arabia, where he is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. The Saudi officials wished him success and prosperity in his new position.
