Uzbekistan supports UN resolution for end to Israeli occupation and Palestinian land restoration
The United Nations General Assembly recently passed a resolution urging Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied Palestinian territories. This resolution, supported by 124 UN member states, also calls for a halt to the construction of new Israeli settlements and the return of Palestinian land and property.
Uzbekistan joined in supporting the resolution, demonstrating international solidarity on this issue. Proposed by the State of Palestine with the backing of numerous other countries, the resolution is based on the International Court of Justice’s past ruling that the occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal. It sets a deadline of 12 months for the end of the occupation and warns of potential sanctions against Israel for non-compliance.
In response, Israel vehemently rejected the resolution, with its UN representative labeling it as support for “diplomatic terrorism” by the Palestinian Authority. The United States also opposed the resolution, with its ambassador to the UN criticizing it as “provocative” and unhelpful in promoting peace in the region.
The adoption of this resolution highlights the ongoing tensions and complexities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with differing perspectives on the best path towards a peaceful resolution.
