Uzbekistan’s Birthrate Declines and Mortality Rate Rises
In the first quarter of 2024, Uzbekistan registered a total of 205,713 live births, marking a 4.3 percent decrease compared to the previous year. Concurrently, the mortality rate saw a 3.1 percent increase with 40,197 recorded deaths during the same period.
The Statistics Agency reported a 6 percent decrease in the natural population growth, resulting in 165,516 fewer individuals. The average age of the population has also seen an upward trend, with men averaging 28.5 years and women averaging 30 years in 2024.
As of April 1, 2024, the average population density in Uzbekistan stood at 82.3 persons per square kilometer, indicating a slight increase from the previous year. Tashkent city, Andijan Province, and Fergana Province exhibited the highest population densities, while Navoi Province and the Republic of Karakalpakstan recorded the lowest densities.
Regarding births, the first quarter of 2024 saw 205,700 live births, with a majority being single births. The distribution of fathers’ and mothers’ ages at the time of birth was also outlined, showing a dominance of fathers aged 25-39 and mothers aged 25-39.
On the other hand, deaths in the same period totaled 40,200, with circulatory system diseases being the leading cause. The distribution of deaths by gender and urban vs. rural areas was also highlighted in the report.
