Uzbekistan’s President Urges Immediate Energy Conservation Actions

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan recently convened a meeting to address the importance of conserving energy resources, increasing consumption efficiency, and ensuring their rational use in the country. With projections indicating that Uzbekistan’s population is expected to reach 41 million by 2030, and the economy set to double in size, there will be a significant increase in the demand for energy resources. In response to this, new projects are being launched to boost capacity, alongside the implementation of energy-saving measures.
During the meeting, officials presented reports on current efforts and future plans to prioritize energy conservation. Experts and scientists are conducting research on energy-saving opportunities across Uzbekistan, following on from successful initiatives implemented last year. Studies conducted in regions such as Samarkand, Sirdarya, and Jizzakh have identified ways to save significant amounts of electricity and gas through the replacement of outdated equipment with more energy-efficient alternatives.
At the district and neighborhood levels, there is substantial potential for energy conservation through the installation of small solar power plants, micro hydropower plants, and solar-powered street lighting. These initiatives are expected to result in substantial savings of natural gas and electricity this year.
President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of large industrial enterprises adopting modern energy-efficient equipment to reduce energy waste, with the government tasked with overseeing and implementing new systems in this area. Additionally, raising awareness about energy conservation practices in workplaces and homes, such as avoiding unnecessary electricity and gas usage and transitioning to alternative energy sources like solar panels, is crucial to achieve significant savings.
Given the high population density in the Fergana Valley, a tailored approach to energy supply is being developed by the government as a pilot program, with plans to gradually introduce similar initiatives in other parts of the country. By focusing on energy conservation and efficiency, Uzbekistan aims to meet its growing energy demands responsibly and sustainably in the coming years.
