Uzbekistan’s Roadmap for Central Asia–EU Cooperation

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan announced during the first “Central Asia–European Union” summit on April 4 that a historic decision would be made to establish a strategic partnership between the two regions. In addition, President Mirziyoyev suggested the organization of regular meetings of foreign ministers to address important international and regional issues. He also proposed the establishment of a “Central Asia–European Union” Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Forum to promote dialogue and collaboration between parliamentarians from both regions. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between leading think tanks to facilitate the exchange of ideas and expertise.

The President expressed his full support for holding the summit every two years to ensure ongoing cooperation and coordination between Central Asia and the European Union. Uzbekistan has offered to take on the role of the summit secretariat to oversee the implementation of agreements and maintain systematic coordination until the next meeting.
